(HACKENSACK, NJ) — Riverside Gallery presents “Looking Up” – a new solo exhibition by Marsha Heller. The exhibition will run from April 4 to April 20, 2022 with an opening on Saturday April 9, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. According to the artist, “Looking Up” refers to the views she sees when looking out her windows or opening her door in the morning and seeing the sky shining through the trees. Each angle suggests a new painting. With these works, she tries to share her zest for life with the viewers, as she hopes that, for the world, things will soon be “Looking Up”.

Originally an oboe, Marsha Heller discovered herself as an artist when she began designing flyers and posters for her recitals. Heller studied graphic design at NYU’s School of Visual Arts and Painting with Irving Marantz. She pursued more training at Chautauqua with Revington Arthur and further with Sam Feinstein. Heller’s landscapes celebrate the sensuality of nature found in his garden in Leonia, NJ. Her intention with painting is for her works to bring sunshine to the rooms where they hang, just as she hopes her music will light up the lives of the public.

Marsha Heller depicts lush, painterly still lifes of flowers and landscapes expressing the sentiments of The Sublime. Light (or “the sun”, as the artist calls it), colors and forms of abstraction are very important experiences for Heller, as she relives the act of painting every day. The formal qualities and the fragments of abstraction, sensation and beauty give the work the qualities of modernism, when the artists tried to rebel against the artistic establishment and its conventions limiting the freedom and expression of artists. . In her art, Heller celebrates modernism, which she values as a person and artist of modernity. For Heller, it’s not the latest trend that interests him; Rather, Heller finds joy in rediscovering the lessons of modernism – experimenting with color and form and creating personal expression to share and enjoy with the wider public.
