Calgary, Alta, June 25, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – June 25, 2021 (Calgary, Alta) – The Academy of Learning Career College (AOLCC) is delighted to announce the new ownership of seven Alberta campuses. This includes three locations in Edmonton, two in Calgary, and one in Red Deer and Medicine Hat. This family business has been operated by Elmer and Audrey Brattberg for 25 years and they are now happy to welcome Calgary entrepreneur and investor Stephen Reid as their new franchise owner. Stephen’s goal is to improve the local economy by creating accelerated career opportunities as the unemployment rate continues to climb.
AOLCC is the largest network of career colleges in Canada offering a wide range of career programs in health, accounting, community services, computer support, graphic and web design, legal assistance, hospitality and many other industries. For 25 years in Alberta, AOLCC has maintained a placement rate of over 80 percent, helping more than 10,000 graduates find new careers with an average 60 percent increase in minimum wage. Students benefit from a flexible learning environment where they can learn at their own pace while taking on other responsibilities at home or in their current job. This includes online course content through the Integrated Learning System (ILS), an e-learning technology that enabled AOLCC to continue serving students when the COVID-19 pandemic displaced all online programs. Many programs also include an internship to help students prepare for the job market. As COVID-19 regulations continue to ease, AOLCC looks forward to welcoming students back into in-person learning in the fall.
“We are delighted to warmly welcome Stephen Reid, and have confidence that he will continue AOLCC’s legacy of excellence,” said Audrey Brattberg.
“This is a family business that was built from the ground up, and we place the utmost importance on choosing owners who are as committed to the staff, students and the community of AOLCC as we are. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the staff and students who have worked so hard to make AOLCC successful in changing lives and creating new career opportunities, ”said Elmer Brattberg.
“Our province has been through unprecedented hardships, and this is one way to invest in creating a strong future for Alberta by improving the careers and earning power of our citizens. This in turn will improve the economy and the quality of life for all Albertans, ”said Stephen Reid, new owner of seven AOLCC campuses across the province. “I would like to thank ATB Financial for their support as a banking partner in this transaction. PwC Corporate Finance negotiated the deal and succeeded in creating a big win-win for all parties. I would also like to thank Bryce Heggie, Josh Matthews and the PwC team. “
The majority of programs require a grade 12 diploma as a prerequisite, with time commitments varying between 18 weeks and 12 months depending on the program. Recent graduates say the opportunity has changed their lives.
“Before I started at the Academy of Learning, I worked as a personal trainer and bootcamp coach. I was struggling to find a work-life balance with my kids, ”says Chandelle MacKenzie, a recent community service worker diploma graduate. “It has helped me a lot in life to be able to do what I love and to always have the right balance for myself and for my two young daughters. The program really put me on the right path to what I wanted to do.
The AOLCC is proud to be the recipient of the Consumer Choice Award (CCA) for 19 consecutive years for Northern Alberta and 18 consecutive years for Southern Alberta. Supporting charitable causes is also important to the organization, as a long-time donor, supporter and partner of the JDRF Type 1 Diabetes Research Foundation. To celebrate 25 years of success, any student entering a program before the end of June will be registered to win 1 of the 7 scholarships of $ 2,500 (one scholarship per campus).
